Up to 70 per cent of the project cost will be funded through a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), while the remaining cost will be covered by KESH, according to a notice published on the EBRD’s e-procurement portal ECEPP. The estimated value of the contract was not disclosed. Vau i Dejës was the first hydropower plant to be built on the river Drin in the northwestern part of Albania. The 250 MW hydropower dam is the most downstream of a three-plant cascade with a total capacity of 1350 MW that is owned and operated by KESH. Its five 50 MW units were commissioned between 1970 and 1975. In addition to electricity generation, the facility provides flood control for the lowlands of Lezha and Shkodra.
The FIDIC Conditions of Contract for Design, Build and Operate Projects (First Edition 2008) – FIDIC Gold Book will be used for project implementation. A clarification meeting and a site visit will take place at the Vau i Dejës hydropower plant on the morning of 23 November 2022.
