Preliminary Market Consultation for overhaul of Ljósafoss hydro generators

Landsvirkjun, Iceland’s state power producer, invites interested parties with relevant experience to participate in a Preliminary Market Consultation process for the overhaul of two of the three generators at the 14.6 MW Ljósifoss hydro plant in the southern part of Iceland.

Condition assessment of the units has shown them to be capable to continue running without any problems if some key components are renewed, according to the tender notice published on the EU’s procurement platform.  The deadline for expressions of interest is 9 October.

The on the river Sog, east of the Ljósafoss waterfall, an outlet from Lake Úlfljótsvatn, was commissioned in 1937 with two turbines totalling a combined 8.8 MW (4.4 MW each). A third unit of 5.8 MW was added in 1944. The plant generates average annual output of 105 GWh.
