The 207 MW run-of-river project is planned to be developed on the river Swat under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Hydropower and Renewable Energy Development Project with funding from the World Bank. The World Bank approved US$ 450 million in financing in September 2020 to support the development of hydropower and associated solar PV in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as well as strengthen the capacity of associated institutions in the province, as part of wider efforts by the multilateral bank to support Pakistan’s transition to renewable energy with the aim to reduce its reliance on fossil fuel imports and to lower the costs of electricity production.
The mechanical works for Contract No. PK-PEDO-339716-CW-RFB will entail the design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of two turbines with a rated capacity of 86.6 MW and one turbine with a rated capacity of 33.8 MW, governors, inlet valves; HVAC system, mobile and gantry cranes, and other auxiliary mechanical systems. The electrical component includes generators, transformers, HV/MV switchgear, HV cables, power supplies, I&C, SCADA, telecoms, GIS switchyard, and auxiliaries, as well as transmission lines with a length of around 200 m. Construction duration shall be 48 months. Quantities, locations and other information are described under Section VII “Scope of Works” of the prequalification documents. It is expected that Invitation to Bid will be issued in July 2023. Prequalification will be conducted through the procedures as specified in the World Bank’s “Procurement Regulations for IPF Borrowers- Procurement in Investment Projects Financing” Fourth Edition, November 2020 (“Procurement Regulations”).
A complete set of prequalification documents in English may be purchased by interested applicants on the submission of a written application to the address below and upon payment of a non-refundable fee of Pakistan Rupee 30 000 through Pay Order or Bank Draft drawn on a scheduled bank of Pakistan in favour of the Head PMO Construction of 157 MW Madyan.
