Civil works and hydro-mechanical equipment tendered for Tamakoshi V, Nepal

Prequalification applications are invited by 28 February for the civil works and hydro-mechanical equipment at the Tamakoshi V project.

Tamakoshi Jalvidyut Company (TKJVC), a wholly owned subsidiary of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), invites prequalification applications by 28 February for the civil works and hydro-mechanical equipment for the 101 MW Tamakoshi V hydroelectric project in the Central Development Region of Nepal.

The tendered works will comprise the construction of the hydraulic structure. Civil works will include the excavation of a headrace tunnel, a surge tank, a vertical shaft, a short pressure tunnel, an underground powerhouse and a spillway. Hydromechanical works will comprise the design, manufacturing, installation, and commissioning of gates, penstock, valves, and gantry cranes.

The run-of-river project, in the Dolakha District of Janakpur Zone, which will cost an estimated US$ 165 million, is to be financed by a sovereign-backed loan of US$ 112 million from the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and counterpart funds to be provided by the Government of Nepal through the state power utility NEA. It is designed to operate as a cascade with the upstream 456 MW Upper Tamakoshi, which is under construction. The project is scheduled to be implemented from December 2019 to December 2024, according to the AIIB.

It is expected that the request for bids for Contract-1: Civil Works and Hydro-Mechanical Equipment of the Tamakoshi V hydroelectric project will be made by the end of 2019. Prequalification will be conducted through the procedures as specified in the AIIB’s Interim Operational Directives on Procurement Instructions for Recipient (PIR) 2016 and is open to all eligible applicants as defined in the PIR. A complete set of prequalification documents in English may be purchased until 27 February by interested applicants on the submission of a written application to the address below and upon payment of a non-refundable deposit in cash or by wire transfer of Nepalese Rupees 20,000 or the equivalent amount in a convertible currency, to the account of TKJVC at Nabil Bank Limited, Durbarmarg, Kathmandu, Account No.: 9701017500087. Wire transfer should include applicable mailing/shipping charges of US$ 200 in favour of TKJVC. Prequalification documents should be signed and stamped on each page by authorized personnel and submitted in clearly marked envelopes to the below-mentioned address by 12.00 hours (Nepal Standard time (NST)) on 28 February 2019.
