Bids sought for spillway refurbishment Phase 2 of Kariba dam

The Zambezi River Authority (ZRA) invites sealed bids by 23 November for the second phase of the refurbishment of the spillway of the Kariba Dam in the Zambezi river basin between Zambia and Zimbabwe.

The scope of supply for Spillway Refurbishment Phase 2 will comprise the replacement of the six spillway gate hoists with their associated controls and electrical equipment; replacement of the standby diesel generator, completion of the maintenance works on the six spillway gates, and repairs to the concrete as well as associated miscellaneous civil work.  This contract, which is designed to improve the operation and prevent potential failure of the spillway control facility, will be jointly financed by the African Development Bank, the Government of Sweden and the World Bank’s International Development Association, which have provided loans and grants toward the cost of the entire US$ 300 million rehabilitation project. The rehabilitation project is designed to ensure the 128 m-high double curvature concrete arch dam’s continued operation in accordance with international dam safety standards. The first phase of the spillway refurbishment was awarded in 2019 to a consortium of GE Hydro France and France’s Freyssinet International.

Bids addressed to the Chief Executive must be delivered to the address below before 16.00 hours local time on 23 November. Bidders may obtain and inspect the bidding document during office hours from the head office in Lusaka. Electronic bidding will not be permitted.
