A new orthogonal turbine was developed at the Russian Research Institute of Energy Structures (JSC NIIES). This turbine is suitable for tidal, wave and low-head conventional hydropower plants. This paper presents a description of numerical modelling carried out for the design of the new unit, as well as key characteristics and turbine performance.
