Study and design aspects of Bengoh dam, Sarawak

The present water supply for Kuching, the State capital of Sarawak, Malaysia, is provided by direct river abstraction from the Sg Sarawak Kiri adjacent to the water treatment works at Batu Kitang, immediately upstream of the confluence of Sg Sarawak Kiri and Sg Sarawak Kanan. Despite almost 4 m of annual rainfall in the region, this source is under pressure, and in recent years, the resource has been stretched close to its limits by the rapidly increasing population, as well as industrial development and toursim. Bengoh dam, now under construction, will play an important role in developing water resources for the city.
