Stabilizing, rapid repair and re-commissioning after a sector gate failure in Norway

Following a major gate failure at the Sarpsfossen dam in Norway, emergency procedures were rapidly put in place to pass upstream water. At the same time, an extensive repair programme was implemented prior to the post-winter ice melt season. The authors describe the chain of events that resulted in failure, and civil and mechanical remedial works undertaken prior to full project re-commissioning in 2021.
