Small hydro potential and development challenges in Sri Lanka

Small hydro schemes in operation and under development in Sri Lanka already make a significant contribution to national electricity supply; if various economic, social and administrative aspects could be tackled, the author points out that there is still much more potential for mini hydro, particularly at existing water infrastructure, such as irrigation sluices and canals. In addition, some old micro hydro schemes, now out of service, could be rehabilitated.
