Setting new standards for debris management

The author outlines the technical, economic and environmental advantages of high density polyethylene (HDPE) debris exclusion booms, and briefly presents three case studies in the USA. The three hydropower dams described provide examples of the differing applications of these booms and their success in delivering the expected results, in terms of increased revenues from higher generation, lower operating and maintenance costs, increased safety and greater fish collection rates.
