GTZ’s Energy Programme, under way in Afghanistan’s northeast province of Badakhshan, is playing an important role in rural electrification based on renewable energy, including small hydropower. The programme goes beyond technical assistance, and includes local capacity building to encourage socio-economic development in the villages.
