Modifying the operating regime at Stânca-Costeşti dam as a climate adaptation measure

Stânca-Costeşti is a complex structure, on the Prut river, where it forms the border of Romania and Moldova. The dam is a composite structure, comprising sections of five dam types. The effects of the changing climate have caused three major floods in the region, which necessitated some restoration and upgrading works on the dam, the first stage of which was completed in 2015. In view of the various hydrological changes, the development of a new hydrological model became necessary. Climate change adaptation measures, resulting from the modelling, have included changes in the operation and monitoring of the dam complex.
