Major pumped-storage projects lead Queensland’s decarbonisation pathway

In Queensland, Australia, as part of the state’s transition to a low carbon power system, Queensland Hydro is progressing with the development of two major pumped-storage projects, Borumba (2000 MW) and Pioneer-Burdekin (5000 MW), as part of the state’s transition to a low-carbon power system. Both projects will be capable of 24 hour generation. Combined with Queensland’s high quality renewable resources, these long-duration assets will enhance the reliability of the state’s rapidly decarbonising power system, even in adverse climatic conditions.
