Integral monitoring system for hydropower equipment

Typical monitoring systems used in hydropower plants are based on a number of localized sensors, such as vibration sensors installed on the head cover of a machine, or temperature sensors for bearing pads or generators. This paper describes an approach using integral measurements of signals (measuring quantities that do not collect localized information, but combine multiple sources into a single quantity) which can overcome some of the shortcomings of classical monitoring systems.
