An optimal load distribution system (OLDS) has been developed for Santo Antônio hydro plant, using computational techniques to optimize energy generation and improve the operational efficiency of the 50 bulb units. After a general description of the main features of the plant and its operation, the authors describe the modelling which was carried out and the system developed, and communications between the OLDS and real-time measurements.
