IEA Roadmap aims to increase opportunities for sustainable hydro

The International Energy Agency (IEA) has developed a number of Technology Roadmaps in response to the pressing need to accelerate the development of advanced energy technologies to address the global challenges of clean energy, climate change and sustainable development. The IEA Hydropower Roadmap, described here, is being developed to identify actions and milestones which could enable a 70 per cent increase in hydro development by 2050. This paper covers the development of the Roadmap to date, and highlights key aspects relating to sustainability issues, public acceptance and financial challenges.
