Hydraulic isolation of hydroelectric units

Over the years, certain practices have been established regarding hydraulic isolation and, although each hydro plant is unique, these practices have resulted in acceptably safe facilities at reasonable cost. The purpose of this paper is to summarize the current thinking regarding the needs and acceptable practices for hydraulic isolation in hydro plants, together with a précis of the equipment typically used to implement it.
