FMHL+: Power extension of the existing Hongrin-Léman powerplant

A major upgrade is currently underway at the Hongrin-Léman pumped-storage scheme, near Montreux, Switzerland, to double the present capacity of 240 MW. This paper outlines the development of the studies for the project, describing some of the major challenges. Details are discussed of the machinery arrangement and transient analysis relating to the existing scheme, as well as on-going commissioning and finishing works.
