Exploring hydro potential in a pressurized irrigation network

The authors describe a research project to assess the economic feasibility of exploiting the energy potential in a pressurized irrigation system using pumps operating in reverse as turbines. It is pointed out that this presents an attractive alternative to reducing excess pressure with a valve.
