Discussion on deformation control of high CFRDs

Since the earliest concrete faced rockfill dam (CFRD), built in the 1940s, the construction of this type of dam has undergone rapid development over more than a century. After years of progress and technical improvement, the design and construction methods of CFRDs are becoming more and more mature, and their applications are becoming increasingly widespread in the world. With the continuous progress and development of technology, as well as the increasing growth of social and economic demand for hydropower, more high CFRDs are being built or will be built in the world. Based on China’s experience of the highest CFRDs in the world, the author puts forward some recommendations on design aspects, and in particular the control of deformations.
