Development of light-weight concrete to fill a cavity during construction of a powerhouse cavern

An innovative light-weight concrete was designed for a project currently under construction in India, where a large cavity formed during excavation work for a powerhouse cavern. This paper describes the options considered to address the issue, and the solution adopted which was based on the use of local materials, could be produced economically, and did not require special concrete production equipment.
