Design features of the Palomino project, Dominican Republic

The Dominican Republic currently has 15 hydro schemes either under construction or planned, which will increase the country’s total hydro capacity from the present 470 MW to more than 760 MW by 2012. One of the largest of these schemes, now at an initial stage of construction, is Palomino, which will incorporate a 60 m-high RCC dam and an 80 MW powerplant. Its main features are described here, including some challenges for the underground works.
