Applications of self-lubricating bearings in spillway radial gates

The trunnions of radial gates, consisting of the arm terminals, support base, shafts and bearings, are some of the most critical components of a radial gate, supporting the hydrostatic loads and ensuring the structural integrity and safe operation of the gate. Failure in any of these components can result in serious risks to the dam’s safety and the spillway’s operation. This paper reports different bearing types and their application, noting key differences as well as certain advantages.
