An overview of tidal power potential and prospects

The design, equipment, construction methods, operation and impact of tidal power plants are very different from those for traditional hydropower plants. Therefore many established ideas have to be re-evaluated when studying tidal energy. This article discusses the market and potential for tidal energy, especially the cost of other renewable energies with which it will compete, including some specific advantages and drawbacks, and technical, economic and environmental aspects.
