A decision support framework for the selection of low-head turbines for retrofit schemes

Unlocking the hidden energy potential of existing hydraulic structures by coupling hydro turbines is an innovative way to contribute to increasing renewable sources in the energy mix, and reducing GHG emissions. Selecting the best technique from the available energy conversion techniques and its implementation can be a complex task. A decision support framework is presented here, based on the multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA) approach, which harmonizes trade-offs and evaluates and ranks methods from a pool of available options.
