Social Programme
The Speke Resort Munyonyo offers a variety of splendid venues for social events, conveniently located within the same large site, but with different surroundings and character.
HALF DAY EXCURSION
Sunday
After registration on the morning of Sunday 9 July, delegates and accompanying persons have an option to take part in a half-day local excursion, to see some of the most important sights in Kampala. They will include the Mengo-Kabaka Palace and Lake, and various monuments, places of worship and cultural centres.
Lunch will be taken together, and a boat trip on Lake Victoria is provisionally planned. The trip will depart around 11.00 hrs, and return to the Speke Resort in the mid-afternoon, so that some of the leisure facilities there can be enjoyed.
Reception for Chairpersons & Speakers
Sunday
The Stables restaurant offers an ideal venue for the Speakers’ and Chairpersons’ dinner, before the conference begins. It has a large decked terrace, overlooking a lawn and scenic gardens with blossoming trees.
Welcome Reception
Monday
The Welcome Reception is planned to take place on a vast lawn, directly overlooking Lake Victoria; apéritifs will be followed by a buffet supper and musical entertainment.
Networking Party in the Exhibition
Tuesday
On the second afternoon of the conference, the exhibition area will remain open into the early evening for a Networking Party, giving participants extra time to meet exhibitors and establish new business contacts. Drinks and light snacks will be served.
Farewell Dinner
Wednesday
The AFRICA 2023 Farewell Gala Dinner will provide a chance to discover another area of the resort. Apéritifs will be taken beside an olympic-sized swimming pool, before dinner, with entertainment, in a semi-outdoor venue surrounded by palm trees.
Conference Themes
Themes will include civil engineering and dam construction, safety and cyber security, social and environmental concerns, challenging schemes, multipurpose development, rural electrification, and training and capacity building, among many others.
About AFRICA 2023
AFRICA 2023 will take place at the Speke Resort Munyonyo beside Lake Victoria, Uganda. The fourth in the AFRICA regional conference series, previous events have been held in Ethiopia, Morocco and Namibia.
