Design and construction of Pakistan’s Marala hydropower project

The Marala hydropower project is a low head scheme with an installed capacity of 7.64 MW. The scope of work comprised the construction of a diversion channel, powerhouse, spillway, installation of Kaplan turbines, gates and other key components. The Marala project began commercial operation in November 2018 and is one of four projects planned to be constructed on irrigations canals in the Punjab. This paper describers unique features of the design and construction of the project.
