Cameroon’s Rural Electrification Agency (Agence d’Electrification Rurale, AER) plans to launch an international competitive tender for the construction of a small hydropower plant within the framework of the decentralized production of electricity and enhancement of rural electrification for agriculture and rural development in Cameroon (Plan VER).
Bids will be sought in two lots for the civil works, and separately for engineering studies and the supply, installation and commissioning of electro-mechanical equipment and a control system.
The project will be co-financed with a grant from the European Commission through the ACP-EU Energy Facility, which was established in 2005 to co-finance projects for increasing access to modern and sustainable energy services for the poor in African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) countries.
The Plan VER is an initiative of the Government of Cameroon, launched under the leadership of the AER and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MINADER), to increase access to energy for rural populations, to improve the economic and social impact of rural electrification, and to promote the participation of local authorities in the development of decentralized electricity production.
