Hydropower is vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, which is a matter of considerable concern. The effects can vary significantly because of the localized nature of hydrological conditions and geographic features. Therefore, the need for site-specific research is crucial when projecting the performance of existing and new schemes, such as for projects in India where hydropower potential is vast. This paper describes the factors contributing to the effects of climate change on hydropower and provides a synthesis of diverse studies conducted across the globe, as well as recommending research areas to increase climate resilience.
