Overhaul of the generators at the Sayano-Shushenskaya scheme, Russia

The 6400 MW Sayano-Shushenskaya project was built in the mid 1970s on the Yenisei river in Siberia. It is the largest hydropower plant in Russia and one of the largest in the world. On 17 August 2009, the plant suffered the most significant accident in the history of the Russian hydraulic power industry. This paper describes the works undertaken and the achievements made during the restoration of the ten 640 MW generators.
