The Priest Rapids Right Embankment Improvement Project, USA, completed in November 2023, involved constructing a downstream backup dam consisting of a 535 m-long RCC dam with a short connecting embankment and plastic concrete cutoff wall tied into the existing embankment. The project addressed seismic deformation and stability concerns for the existing right embankment at Priest Rapids dam. This paper describes engineering services for the implementation of the seismic mitigation design and the construction challenges involved.
