The project involves the rehabilitation of the existing 128 MW Bakaru I plant and its extension by 144 MW (referred to as Bakaru II) with the construction of a new headrace tunnel, pressure shaft/tunnel and powerhouse parallel to the existing structures. The contracted works for Lot 1, which are being financed by the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), through the German development bank, Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW) Bank, will entail the construction of the power conduit system with headrace culvert and tunnel, surge shaft, pressure shaft/tunnel and connection to the Bakaru I intake, as well as related project infrastructure and roads, and the procurement, installation, testing, and commissioning of hydromechanical works and earth works for the new Bakaru substation. A joint venture led by Tractebel Engineering with Japan’s NEWJEC, and local consultancy PT Connusa Energindo, was appointed project implementation consultant for the Bakaru I and II hydropower projects in 2020. Prequalification will be conducted through procedures in accordance with the applicable Guidelines for Procurement of the KfW, and it is open to all applicants from eligible source countries as defined in the Prequalification Document.
