Bui bridges the development gap between north and south in Ghana

Ghana, as a developing country, faces a number of challenges. One is the vast disparity in the development between northern and southern parts of the country. Development in the north is slow because of undeveloped potential natural energy resources (hydro and solar). As a result, the populace in the northern sector sees migration to the south as a solution to improve their living standards. This has overstretched existing infrastructure in the southern part of the country. The 400 MW Bui hydroelectric project will play a major role in the socio-economic development of Ghana (especially the north) and could later also be beneficial for a wider region of West Africa, in the context of the West Africa Pool Project.
