Sustainable water infrastructure in Asia and the Pacific

Investment in water infrastructure in Asia and the Pacific is now facing several major challenges, emerging from the complex socio-economic conditions of the region, the requirement for much higher annual investment, the rapidly increasing degradation of the environment, increasing concern for the environment and quality of life, as well as possible impacts of climate change. This paper aims to synthesize the experiences of the recently introduced concept of sustainable development, based on various perspectives, including those derived from the experiences of the Human Development Reports, the need to address impacts of climate change and, recently, the Green Growth approach of ESCAP.
