Study completed for Vietnam’s National Hydropower Plan

The overall objective of the Vietnamese NHP Study, completed recently, was to assess and rank selected potential hydro projects in the country. This paper presents the main methodology applied, which was under continuous development throughout the process, as a joint effort by the Client, the Vietnamese and international consultants, the Vietnamese stakeholders, with comments by international organizations. The main results are presented here. A total of 80 potential hydro projects were evaluated, both as isolated schemes and as part of a multipurpose river basin development. The main results have been the identification of hydro projects in all the important river basins in Vietnam, and their ranking based on economic and environmental/social parameters.
