SE seeks modernization of Ružín pumped-storage power plant

Slovenske Elektrarne (SE), the Republic of Slovakia's dominant power producer, invites bids by 19 July for the modernization of unit 1 of the Ružín pumped-storage power plant. Located on the Hornád river in eastern Slovakia, it is the country´s first pumped-storage plant to feature reversible turbines. The 60 MW station, which was commissioned in 1972, is equipped with two Francis pump-turbines that generate average annual output of 54 GWh under a flow rate of 67 m3 per second.

The contracted works, which will be financed from European Union funds and the contracting authority’s own resources, will entail the modernization of the turbine of TG1 of PVE Ružín, according to a tender notice published on the EU’s procurement website TED on 8 June.

The aim of the project is to increase the efficiency of the unit as well as its control range in both operating modes by installing a new impeller, reducing vibration and cavitation wear and tear, increasing the overall technical level of the equipment, and increasing the safety, reliability and operational efficiency of individual equipment. A complete description of the contract is given in the technical specifications, which form an appendix to the tender documents.
