Skanska wins order to build Nya Nedre Fiskumfoss in Norway

NTE awards construction contract for the Nya Nedre Fiskumfoss plant, expected to produce 382 GWh/year.

Skanska, the multinational construction group based in Sweden, has been awarded a contract worth about NOK 390 million (US$ 45 million) by Norway-based utility Nord-Trøndelag Elektrisitetsverk Holding (NTE) to build the Nya Nedre Fiskumfoss hydropower plant in Norway.

The hydropower plant should produce 382 GWh/year, enough to supply 20 000 households with electricity, Skanska said in a press release on 27 November. The project has been designed with a strong environmental focus, with close attention paid to the local salmon both during construction and after completion. Construction will begin in March 2019 and is scheduled for completion in August 2022.

It is the latest contract awarded by NTE to Skanska. Skanska completed two projects in Norway for the power producer this year. This summer Skanska Norge AS completed the civil works for a new underground 25.5 MW plant built at Storåselva on the river Storåselva in Skromoen, including a 55 m-long, 4-m high dam as well as a 3.1 km-long intake tunnel that feeds the powerhouse (see H&D Issue 6, 2017). Skanska also completed a new hydropower plant and dam to replace the Byafossen plant and dam on the river Steinkjerelva in the municipality of Steinkjer.
